On Wednesday, the Cincinnati Bengals placed rookie cornerback Brandon Ghee on injured reserve with a groin injury, according to the team site. The injury occurred in Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills and marks the ninth Bengals player in the last month to be placed on the list.

Ghee was drafted in the third round (96th overall) by Cincinnati in this year’s draft after a three-year career at Wake Forest in which he finished with 148 combined tackles, for forced fumbles, and one interception. He impressed scouts with his speed and athleticism, but Ghee still showed plenty of areas in need of improvement—especially his backpedaling. He played in six games for the Bengals this season and recorded nine tackles.

With Ghee out, the Bengals added linebacker Vincent Rey to their roster—who was already on the practice squad. The former Duke standout originally signed with Cincinnati as a rookie free agent at the end of April and played in all five preseason games before being waived on September 4. The Bengals signed him to the practice squad on the following day.

Mike Zimmer’s defense has seen their share of struggles in 2010 as Ghee is now the 14th player for Cincinnati to be placed on injured reserve this season.
