Toxicology reports indicate no alcohol in system of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry

On Tuesday, a toxicology report released by the Mecklenburg County medical examiner’s office found no alcohol in Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry’s system following his death last December. He passed away last December after sustaining serious head injuries that were caused from falling out of the back of a pickup truck his fiancée, Loleini Tonga, was driving.

Police reports indicated the incident too place following a domestic dispute between Henry and Tonga. Witnesses claimed he jumped into the back of the pickup truck as she was pulling out of the driveway before falling out less than a mile from her family home. Despite the incident, no charges were filed against Tonga since it remains unclear whether Henry fell or jumped during the accident.

Despite his troubled past, Henry appeared to have turned his life around prior to the 2009 season. He realized the type of rare opportunity presented to him by the Bengals and changed his work ethic around well enough for quarterback Carson Palmer to take notice during last year’s offseason.

“He’s had an offseason like no other; he’s worked here every single day,” Palmer said back in May. “He has a great attitude. I’m just really proud of the guy. I’m happy for him. He’s at a good place in his life, a good place for his family. He’s showed up to work here and he will all year long. There’s not a doubt about that.”

Unfortunately, Henry struggled with a thigh injury for most of last season before being placed on injured reserve after fracturing his forearm against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9. He finished the 2009 season with 12 receptions for 236 yards and two touchdowns.
