Chad Johnson staying put

Marvin Lewis on Wednesday wanted to end the rumors of Ocho Cinco, Chad Johnson, being traded to any team.

"I can't control that, that doesn't mean anything to me right now. He's a special player and he's a Cincinnati Bengal for quite awhile."

There is nothing suggesting that the rumors will actually stop, especially considering the unpredictability of Mike Brown, but for the moment at least it looks unlikely.

Marvin Lewis also said in the press conference that, at least for the moment, the Bengals defense is staying as 4-3.

New Defensive Coordinator - Mike Zimmer
Posted: Jan 16, 2008 - 6:13 pm (Bengals News)

The search for the Bengals new Defensive Coordinator has stopped, they have signed 15-year veteran and former Falcons and Cowboys coordinator, Mike Zimmer.

Here's an excerpt from Bengals.com

"No one hopes more than Marvin Lewis that the third time is the charm. "I haven't gotten this right once before," said Lewis, introducing Mike Zimmer as his third defensive coordinator. "We needed to make a change. We needed to have some fresh life, some new life. Lewis is asking the 15-year NFL veteran to give him what apparently he hasn't received yet: "An identity for our defensive football team," and Zimmer said he wants a line-in-the-sand mentality while changing the culture."

In other news, it appears that former Bengals coach, Hue Jackson, could be brought back in some sort of role, to reign in the more outspoken players. We'll keep you updated on that.

CJ to Miami? Zimmer at D Coordinator?
Posted: Jan 05, 2008 - 9:26 pm (Bengals News)

Chad Johnson to Miami?

Our friends over at Bengals Gab have posted an interesting article, arousing the possibility of Chad Johnson being traded for a draft pick, to the Miami Dolphins. Here is a tidbit and link:

"Back to Miami, where Bill Parcells is now calling the shots, and may want to right away grab a player that could make a big change to the Dolphins offense. Could you imagine Derek Anderson at QB and Chad Johnson at WR, with a returning Ronnie Brown at running back? Sounds like a team that could quickly go from 1-15 and be a force in the AFC. No doubt that if there is one guy that could turn around the Dolphins, it’s Parcells, who has done it with the Giants, Patriots, Jets and Cowboys."

Could C.J. Be Moving to South Florida?

Mike Zimmer - Defensive Coordinator in Cincy?

Although the "current" defensive coordinator for the Falcons, Mike Zimmer appears to be the first name to popup as a possibility to take Bresnahan's place as the Bengals defensive coordinator.

The Enquirer is reporting that the Bengals were given permission to speak to Zimmer regarding the opening. The more depressing part about the Enquirer article is the fact it says that there will be no more assistant coaches fired this offseason, what a way to overhaul a team.

Bresnahan gone, Earth is round
Posted: Jan 05, 2008 - 9:14 pm (Bengals News)

I have a question that must be answered - Who I ask, WHO could of seen this happening? Okay, to be serious and fill in everyone, Chuck Bresnahan was fired from the Bengals, he was the defensive coordinator.

Less unexpected was the firing of Linebacker coach Ricky Hunley. I'm not one to stick up for practically anyone on the Bengals defense, but I hope this firing is not based solely or mostly on this past season. Quite simply, no one can have a linebacker core decently when you are drafting linebackers to start right away, who are also getting injured.

That said, at this point, I don't think anyone aside from the Bresnahans could possibly be upset about his firing. For some reason, ranking 27th in defense in 3 years gets you fired. In the next post we'll talk about who may take his place.

Week 17 Bengals @ Dolphins - Recap
Posted: Dec 30, 2007 - 3:24 pm (Recaps)

A good way to end the season. A big 38-25 Cincinnati Bengals win meant practically nothing for both teams, yet after the most disappointing season in the Lewis era, it was a good feeling to end the season on a good note.

Not only did the Bengals win, but they did quite convincingly. Carson looked the best since the Titans game, Carson played like himself. Up 21-10 at half-time, the Bengals put together 2 quick drives which included something I hadn't seen for weeks - a deep pass caugh by Chad Johnson, a 70 yard TD pass.

Soon after the game I'm sure there was a temporary good feeling for Bengals fans, but as with myself, the 7-9 reality sank in. Let's hope the Bengals can get it done in 08!

Patriots go for perfection (Pats win 38-35)
Posted: Dec 29, 2007 - 8:26 pm (NFL News)
Hopefully you have your TV tuned onto NFL Network, CBS or NBC and watching a huge, hopefully good game, Patriots @ Giants. Of course the Patriots win, they are a perfect 16-0, the Giants win and they pull out a huge upset against what I refer to the "team America hates" (the patriots).

I'm sure Patriots and Giants fans alike, as well as all others, hope for at least a good game. We won't be live blogging, but jotting down notes and such, however if it is close late in the 4th, we'll be updating this post often.

Week 17 Patriots @ Giants

Patriots 38-35 @ Final

Final Thoughts

As I said in the beginning of the post, I was really hoping for a good game and we got it. Not only was it a very enjoyable game and very close for the first 3 quarters, but we saw history and broken records.

Just a great game and really is a treat to watch the Patriots play. Unfortunately there is this pure hate against them, jealously, I don't know, but it will get bad in the coming days.

The Patriots beat the Giants 38-35 with Tom Brady getting his 50th TD Pass, breaking the record, the Patriots also had the most points in a season (by 37), Randy Moss caught his 23rd TD Catch for their 3rd record and lastly, for their 4th record, they went 16-0. Congratulations!

Week 16 Browns @ Bengals - Recap
Posted: Dec 23, 2007 - 4:27 pm (Recaps)

What a win and disappointing game by the Bengals! They pulled out a win 19-14, stopping Cleveland with 1 second to go and 29 yards away from beating us.

So what happened today? It was a close, 6-0 game with a few minutes left until half-time when Derrick Anderson throws a bad INT, shortly after a TD for the Bengals. Browns next offensive play, another bad INT, a TD for the Bengals shortly after that half-time, 19-0 at half-time. Remember that, I will bold it, Bengals 19-0 at half-time.

The game isn't over, but if your defense can do decently, offense maybe even get a TD or a few FG's, you have the game. But I guess that would be too easy. Instead the Bengals preceded to throw the ball instead of run with Watson, who had over 90 yards at half-time.

Carson was bad all game, he had a few passes but he is on some funk and I don't know why or how he can get out of it. Week after week, Palmer and CJ have been TOTALLY out of sync and it continued this game. The offense had 1 first down in the 2nd half, up to their last drive where they fumbled it inside the 30, a FG would of made it an 8 point game with a few minutes to go.

Week 15 Bengals @ 49ers - Live Blogging
Posted: Dec 15, 2007 - 7:59 pm (Recaps)

Continuing a feature here at Bengals Chatter, Live Blogging. This essentially means we will be watching the game and updating the blog not play by play (though close to it), but basically recapping.

Week 15 Bengals @ 49ers

49ers 20-13 @ Final

Final Thoughts

The full breakdown will be up, possibly not until Tuesday and the Podcast will be delayed until Wednesday.

The Bengals slide to 5-9, losing 20-13 to a now 4-10 49ers team. The first losing season with Marvin Lewis.

Palmer and Chad Johnson not in sync at all, couldn't stop the run defensively, let Shaun Hill throw all over the place, the list goes on.

Definitely a bad game. A tough one next week against the Browns.
